The New Community Centre & Hall

We’ve laid the Trim Trail, created the Picnic Area, built the Play Area and Barnham Game Zone … So located within the heart of the new Community Park will be a new Community Centre and Hall.

While the current Parish Hall is functional and well used, it is at the end of its economic life and is too small. The new Community Hall is planned to be considerably larger than the existing hall with a range of improved and new facilities - With planning consent already in place, the aim is to construct it in 2012/13.

What’s in it for You

The existing hall is used by a variety of local people, groups and organisations, including Barnham Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Guides and Brownies, Barnham W.I., Barnham Bridge Club, The Five Villages Society, and the Barnham Parent Toddler Group, but many of us only ever go there to vote when it serves as a polling station!

So why do we need a new Community Centre... What’s in it for you?

The Community Centre will feature large hall and small halls, a stage, changing rooms, catering facilities and bar, toilets, plenty of parking, a club room for young people, new facilities for the Barnham Pre-School, and so on. We envisage that the Community Centre will offer a wide variety of new uses and opportunities ...

  • Our vision is to develop a wide range of new recreational facilities, catering for the whole village with a new Community Hall as the focal point
David Phillips, Barnham Parish Council Chairman

  • The children are really excited to have this new play area … It’s also great for parents, as we can sit and chat in nice surroundings while the kids are having fun!
    Caroline Betsworth, Barnham

  • I’ve been running to keep fit for years, and often head out along the footpaths and bridleways around Barnham. But the new Trim Trail is ideal for shorter runs and is great for a workout with the whole family
    Allie Neale, Barnham

  • The new Community Park will be a tremendous asset to the whole of the Six Village area. The village of Barnham is actually split between Barnham Parish Council and Eastergate Parish Council, and I know many residents from the whole community and beyond will be heading to Murrells Field to enjoy the new facilities
John Donabie, past Eastergate Parish Council Chairman

A Centre for Concerts & Shows

The large hall, stage and dressing rooms will present a terrific new facility for local drama groups, schools, choral societies, bands and entertainers to stage concerts, plays and shows ... and there will be the opportunity to bring touring shows and gigs to Barnham.

A Centre for Special Occasions

So often, when it’s time to celebrate, we have to look outside our local area to find a suitable venue for a wedding reception, an anniversary celebration, birthday party of other special function.

In 2005, Barnham couple Chris & Becky McAuley married at Barnham Parish Church, but with no sizeable facilities locally they were forced to look to Chichester to find a venue for their reception. With its large function rooms, catering and bar facilities, outdoor space, and plentiful parking, the new Community Centre will be an ideal location for wedding receptions and other special occasions. "There’s no doubt we would have preferred somewhere more local", said Chris. "After a wonderful service in the local church, we could have simply walked down Church Road straight to the reception!"

A Centre for Sport

Oli Strudwick has spent most of his life in Barnham, living in the village, attending the local schools, and now working for a locally-based firm.

Ollie is a keen sportsman, but with no local facilities he heads off to Bognor three or four times a week to train. But already, with the new Trim Trail completed, Ollie and some of his mates can be seen using the Trail and fitness equipment. However, Ollie is still keen to see the new Community Centre built. “The large or small halls will be ideal for regular weight-training, circuit training, and general fitness sessions, as well as providing space for some indoor sports. And with showers and full changing facilities available, I think they’ll get a lot of use".
